“There’s a becoming that happens as we walk with Jesus, but it isn’t under a system of achieving. Rather, it is in the act of receiving. In order to receive, we have to first let go, to honestly release our right to hold on to those things we trust in for life, those counterfeit sources of truth and security, those false hiding places that seem to offer peace but leave us feeling restless.” (@emilypfreeman)

Last night I jumped 3.90m at the Altis Summer Series here in Phoenix. A seemingly meager height if you compare it to the others who were jumping or even to what I jumped a few years ago… BUT I was elated as I landed on the pit. I covered my face and couldn’t believe it. My heart jumped with gratitude! Why? Because if you’ve been following for any amount of time you’ll know it’s been a long time since I’ve seen the .90 in a meet result! (we’ve had dozens of .70’s and .80’s)

My heart from Day 1 of jumping has been to speak about Christ through vaulting. But what I didn’t realize was that I’d have the opportunity to speak about Him without the measured success I thought would come! My views on Him and His ways were skewed… And He’s brought me back into athletics to define and refine my understanding! Little did I know how deeply rooted my security hides behind my performance and other’s acceptance. God has allowed those to be stripped away piece by piece over these past few years.

“It’s so hard to let go of the mask because we sincerely believe we’ll be left with nothing… [but] since when does the creation get to decide it’s own use? Does not the Creator determine the worth and identity of His craftsmanship? Does not the God of the Universe have the final word on the belovedness of His own?” (@emilypfreeman)

He cares about the deepest part of our hearts and He will not relent until each piece of it belongs to Him. It could sound almost cruel, except that He is SO GOOD! And what is left?? Jesus! And all HE’s done! And how HE loves us! And how HE pursues us! And how HE changes us! And how HE will use us for HIS glory… So don’t get too discouraged or encouraged by your own performance. Just trust and pursue Him IN EVERYTHING! And continue to SOAR Intentionally my friend!
