How many of you have ever fund raised for anything?? A soccer uniform. A cheer camp. A missions trip. (I’m going to imagine all your hands popping up in the air…) Whether it’s for sports uniforms, travel teams, missions trips, or for your entire lively hood, I imagine most of us have experienced the process of fundraising at some point. No matter the size of financial commitment, it is a unique experience casting your vision and asking people to come alongside of you. You have to be okay with people saying no. You have to be okay with people giving unfathomable amounts. Some people you thought would definitely give don’t, and others whom you have never even met do! There are days when you feel there’s nothing that could make you doubt the road you are on, and there are days when you feel absolutely defeated or overwhelmed by the task laid out before you. Your emotions can swing from one extreme to the other in a matter of minutes (I’ve found the greater the amount, the more drastic the swings!). But I have found one constant in this journey of fundraising; the CHOICE to trust. You have to choose it, even when you don’t feel it.
Today a proverb that is often quoted came to mind, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding”. As I sat thinking about it, I confessed to God that, in the moment, I was not trusting Him with all my heart, that I didn’t feel like I could. And He quietly said, “Then choose it”. Choose to trust Me. Choose it even when you don’t feel it. Make that choice 100 times a day if you need to.
So I chose it.
And an hour later when I didn’t feel it, I chose it again.
With every choice to trust, the feeling is building. The parts of my heart that do not trust are diminishing and an overwhelming whole-hearted trust is taking over. Trust in the Lord with ALL your heart. It starts with a choice before it becomes a feeling.
Is there an area in your life that you don’t feel like you are able to trust the Lord completely with? Remind yourself of His faithfulness. Remind yourself that He is your Provider. He created the heavens and the earth; the sky you see and the ground you walk on; He created you.
He is trustworthy.
